Do only mad people want to be a vet trainer? Mad to be vet trainer

Do only mad people want to be a VET Trainer?

At HBA we have asked ourselves this question many times and I am not sure we know the answer ourselves. I guess most trainers could make more money trading shares, selling multi-million dollar homes or trading Bitcoin but we have chosen not to do any of these, rather we stand in front of people both online and in person imparting what we know from Units of Competency, then we sit in front of 3 computer screens and spend countless hours assessing submissions; often we are dealing with folk who are sure we have no idea what we are doing because we have said something is Not Satisfactory and they have done it that way all their life- What a job.

In our lives we travel to places near and far, HBA has delivered in every state and territory of Australia and overseas in places such as Solomon Islands, East Timor, China, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Middle East and many other remote places. Our poor Trainers spend hours on planes, waiting in transit lounges, staying in less than 5 star accommodation (sometimes less than 1 star) and sometimes chasing their baggage and then, they must be bright and dynamic for days on end as they nurse, carry and assist people through a qualification that is often a bunch of alien language to the Learners.

A typical trainer will be called upon to answer questions, some of which may appear inane, assess thousands of submissions, and facilitate a never-ending list of both inhouse and public courses. Remember all the things we do in VET must be Compliant or we run the risk of upsetting our Compliance Manager (lets call him Tim) and he can get very narky.

So let’s reconsider the heading, do only mad people want to be VET trainers?

You see we are Trainers because down deep inside we want to help people. We have this innate desire to help others learn what we have learned and further, we want those people to be better than we are. We all whinge and complain and sometimes swap stories of our funnier experiences but after all is said and done, we love our jobs.

Not one of us at HBA goes to work, we all work on our hobby and that is helping you.
