10 Jul Verification of Competency (VoC) Microcredential
Over the past year we have been responding to a very large number of enquiries from businesses that are in transport, construction and or mining related industries. These organisations all have staff that train operators in the use of equipment, and they are then required to assess them for competence. This type of training and assessment does not allow the issuance of a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment/Qualification on the operator, but it does provide evidence of competence in the operation which of course, includes elements of safety; this is risk management at work.
Historically companies have had their internal trainers complete TAESS00019 Assessor skill set or its predecessors. The anomaly we note with this is the skill set includes a unit about working within VET plus a unit re Validation but this type of enterprise does not work within VET as it is not an RTO and it does not require the individual to carry out Validation of formal assessment tools, instruments and outcomes thus there can be an enormous volume of work undertaken by internal trainers they will never use.
Enter an HBA produced Microcredential that directly addresses the activities undertaken. The course consists of 2 Units of Competency:
- TAEDEL311 Provide work skill instruction
- TAEASS412 Assess competence
We receive many hundreds of enrolments for this VOC Microcredential and many enterprises engage HBA to conduct an in-house course on its site for its staff only. The course can be completed by self-paced learning or be trainer led.
