14 Dec Why go for the BSB51319 Diploma of Work Health and Safety?
The 2 most common questions we receive for this qualification are:
- “What is the difference between a CIV and a Diploma”
- “Why do I need to hold the core units of the Certificate IV before I can enrol in the Diploma?
Let us deal with the first question, in simple language a CIV in WHS is about doing the task and a Diploma is about managing or designing the things that others do. In the CIV you are doing things like Risk Assessment and Hazard identification and in the Diploma you are leading Risk Management and developing the WHS risk management tools.
The answer to the second question is simple, the Commonwealth and State Governments have decreed there is an entry requirement. An extract from the Qualification; which can be found at https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/BSB51319
Entry Requirements
All BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety core units or equivalent competencies. Equivalent competencies are predecessors to the following units which have been mapped as equivalent.
- BSBWHS412 Assist with workplace compliance with WHS laws
- BSBWHS413 Contribute to implementation and maintenance of WHS consultation and participation processes
- BSBWHS414 Contribute to WHS risk management
- BSBWHS415 Contribute to implementing WHS management systems
- BSBWHS416 Contribute to workplace incident response.
We know many people think we impose the requirement ourselves but that is simply not correct, an RTO is obliged to follow all Training Package rules 100% of the time and unfortunately, we can never move from this position or we would lose our RTO licence. Remember, an RTO is licensed by the Federal Government.
The BSB51319 Diploma of Work Health and Safety builds on the WHS knowledge you already posses. Take that next step!
