What is left for me to do when I have finished with your trainer? – WHS

This and “how long will it take me to complete the qualification?” are the 2 most frequent questions we get asked, every single day, so in the interest of clarity we respond as follows

BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety

The 5 day course will commence with underpinning knowledge and you will quickly commence the practical activities including Risk Assessment, Hazard identification, legislation of your jurisdiction, incident response etc. You will also complete one 30 minute presentation. At the end of the 5 days you will have the majority of the practical activities complete leaving you with one additional risk assessment and one other complex document to do. You will also have all of the knowledge questions to complete. There are 2 workbooks in total and the knowledge question one will take the average person anywhere from 80 to 100 hours to complete, typically we are signing qualifications in this delivery model between 3 and 4 months after someone enrols.

NOTE:  We do highlight that some folk finish quicker and some take longer than the stated time above, no one can accurately predict how long you will take to complete. In case you get side-tracked by life, work, kids or your wonderful other half we do allow you 12 months to complete, this doesn’t mean you will take 12 months it is simply how long your course will remain open for.

BSB51319 Diploma of Work Health and Safety

The 5 day course commences with underpinning knowledge and quickly you will find yourself immersed in the role of the regulators and the accompanying legislation in your jurisdiction. As the day continues you will start to develop WHS policy and your work will expand to encompass the development, management and control of a Work Health and Safety Management System. At the end of the 5 days you will have noticed a very strong emphasis on senior report writing, systems modelling and investigation processes. Typically after the 5 days you may have 20 to 50 hours of work to complete the practical activities. There are 158 knowledge questions to answer and this takes anywhere from 80 to 150 hours to complete. As the core units of the CIV are required to enter the Diploma most learners we see are experienced WHS practitioners that have a strong understanding of the subject matter.

NOTE:  We do highlight that some folk finish quicker and some take longer than the stated time above, no one can accurately predict how long you will take to complete. In case you get side-tracked by life, work, kids or your wonderful other half we do allow you 18 months to complete, this doesn’t mean you will take 18 months it is simply how long your course will remain open for.

As an aside, it does become worrying for us when someone with no WHS qualification or experience calls and says “I need the Diploma in a hurry, what can you do for me?” We won’t rush safety, we don’t take short cuts and close enough is NOT good enough:, it is people lives we work with in this subject.
