What is the Unit TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills about?

This is a core unit of TAE40116 Certificate IV in training and assessment and can prove to be a little challenging for anyone who can look at the acronym ACSF and have it mean nothing to them.

The Australian Core Skills Framework is a tool which assists English Language, literacy and numeracy practitioners to describe an individuals’ performance in 5 core skills:

Learning

Reading

Writing

Oral communication

Numeracy

A simplistic description might say the framework provides and defines multiple levels of ability in each of the core skills. The Unit introduces you to a comprehensive bank of instruments that can be administered by you to confirm or deny the existence of the skill at the required level in an individual.

The process works like this:

  • You learn how to identify trigger words in a Unit of Competency
  • You learn how to identify the Core Skills which are in use in a training and/or a workplace environment
  • You learn how to assign a level of competency to each trigger word.
  • You learn how to choose and administer the relevant instruments
  • You learn how to interpret the results
  • You learn how to compare the unit requirement to the individuals’ results
  • You learn how to identify any gap training that is required
  • You learn how to access specialist LLN support
  • You learn how to modify and adapt training and assessment material to support the identified literacy needs

The unit is best completed with a Trainer leading you in a Face to Face or Virtual Classroom delivery unless you have been exposed to the ACSF; what you do in one day in class could well take you 10 times as long to do by yourself.

Whilst this unit is part of our entire TAE40116 Certificate IV in training and assessment course we also deliver it as a stand-alone unit. If you would like to know more about how we deliver the Unit click HERE. To find out more about the content of the unit click HERE.
